The example notebook
From swatch
to sewing plan.
Original, illustrative examples you can check with a pencil. These are invented dimensions for explaining the maths, not published fabric tests.
Worked example / 01
Need 2 metres after washing?
Why adding 5% falls short, and how shop increments change the length you order.
Worked example / 02Shorter in one direction. Wider in the other.
How growth, shrinkage and area change can tell three different stories.
Read the assumptions before the answer
Every example identifies the sample dimensions, the direction being used and the rounding rule. Your own fabric may behave differently, even if its fibre label sounds similar. Replace the sample numbers in the calculator rather than treating an example rate as a recommendation.
